The electric ball valve has a simple structure and is only composed of a few parts, saving data consumption; It is small and light with small driving torque, pressure regulating valve, operate simple and agile, and can be opened and closed quickly by rotating 90 °; At the same time, it also has good flow regulating and sealing performance. It is the main valve that used in the application of the field that is large-and-middle-sized and medium-and- low-pressured.
In case of fire during the use of valve, the seat ring material like PTFE or other non-metal materials will be decomposed or damaged under high temperature may cause higher leakage. The fireproof seal ring between ball and seat so that after the valve seat is burn, the medium will push the ball rapidly towards the downstream metal seal ring to form the auxiliary metal to metal sealing structure, that can effectively control valve leakage. Beside that the middle flange sealing gasket is made of metal wound gasket can ensure sealing even under the high temperature.

The body cavity self pressure relief function at the valve seat to prevent the body cavity when the valve under abnormal temperature rise to retaining medium from damaging. On the upper part of the valve stem cap with the he seal on the valve stem is designed to reduce the influence of temperature change on the packing.
Metal seat ball valve is designed for use in severe services such as high temperature, high pressure, and abrasive fluids found in Oil & Gas, Petroleum, Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, and Mining industries.
Cast Steel Floating Ball Valve
Floating valve is meant with ball isn't fixed. Under flow pressure, the ball floats to downstream slightly and get in touch with with body seat surface to make a decent seal.
Pneumatic ball valve has been widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, power generation, papermaking, atomic energy, aviation, rocket and other departments, as well as people's daily life.
Floating ball valves are in 2 pieces bolted body. Valve can be full and reduced bore, maximum rigidity against pipeline thrust design, Bolted body constructions allow easy service and maintenance operation on site, valve made from forged components or bar stock, Bolted body constructions can be for easy service and maintenance operation.Valves can supplied with lever operator, with gear box or bare stem on customer request.
Segment Ball Valves are mainly primarily designed for flow control, and it also be used for shut-off operation. The notched port on the segment ball have strong shear stress to cut media with fibers and particles. Segment Ball Valve is a good general control valve for industrial markets including Pulp and Paper, Refinery, Chemical, and Petrochemical Industries.
The ball valve has the same action of rotating 90 degrees, but the difference is that the cock body is a sphere with a circular through hole or channel passing through its axis. The ball valve is mainly used to cut off, distribute and change the flow direction of the medium in the pipeline. It only needs to rotate 90 degrees and a small torque can be closed tightly. The ball valve is most suitable for use as a switch and shut-off valve, but recent developments have designed the ball valve to throttle and control the flow.
The cryogenic extension ball valves are always for cryogenic floating ball valves and cryogenic trunnion ball valves. If the ball valves the temperature higher than -50℃, the long neck structure is not designed. And if the ball valves with temperature lower than -50℃, the neck length can designed accord to standard requirements or can accord to user requirements. Under low temperature the common steel will show low temperature brittleness. So it is important for design and manufacturing to select suitable body materials.Of the cryogenic extension ball valve. The valve materials should be subjected to low temperature impact test according to standard requirements. If the valves working temperature lower than -100℃, the body, bonnet and stem must be subjected to cryogenic treatment after rough machining.
Advantages of Cryogenic Extension Ball Valve
Extremely Low Temperature Environments
Cryogenic extension ball valves are specialized valves designed to operate in extremely low temperature environments, typically below -100°c (-148°f). These are quenching valves that are very important in liquefied natural gas (lng), aerospace pharmaceuticals as well as cryogenic research. Thus, their design and materials must withstand the challenges posed by such harsh conditions ensuring that they perform reliably and safely.
Sealing Integrity Under Cryogenic Temperatures
One of the main features of cryogenic extension ball valves is the ability to hold on even when it comes to sealing integrity under cryogenic temperatures. In this respect, these may be made of stainless steel, brass or rare alloys which can stand up to coldness without becoming brittle as well as losing their sealing properties. Moreover, these valves come in special designs that incorporate seals and packing materials meant specifically for cryogenic duties thus ensuring proper shut-off and preventing any leakage of cryogenic fluids.
Easier To Operate And Maintain
In addition to having a robust construction capable of operating at low temperatures; a lot of times cryogenic extension ball valves also have certain attributes incorporated into them that make them easier to operate and maintain. This might include remote or automated actuation options, emergency shutoffs or accessibility for inspection and maintenance activities. This is particularly essential especially in industries where downtime is expensive and safety even more critical.
Uses of Cryogenic Extension Ball Valve
Cryogenic extension ball valves are mostly found in industrial facilities to harness the benefits of undergoing processes at cryogenic temperatures. Thus, the following sections highlight some of these applications.
Liquid nitrogen gas (lng) terminals and plants
In the oil and gas industry, cryogenic extension ball valves serve in the control of liquified gasses such as liquid nitrogen, methane, and helium. Because of the ease and safety of non-pressurized storage and transport, these elements cool to cryogenic temperatures, so they remain in the liquid state. As a result, larger volumes can be transported or stored for some time, while the piping system operates at much lower pressure levels. Before cooling these gasses into liquid, it is necessary to remove condensate, moisture, co2, and h2s to prevent corrosion problems downstream.
Cryogenic processing
As a result, it is common to find cryogenic extension ball valves and accompanying equipment in steel production plants today. Another area of use is in the freezing of foods and biotech products such as vaccines.
Aerospace applications
In the aerospace industry, cryogenic fuels have gained wide acceptance over the years. Liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen often serve as propellants for space shuttles, either alone or in combination with jet fuel. The presence of cryogenic extension ball valves is a must in such systems.

Working Principle of Cryogenic Extension Ball Valve
It has been established that the material from which a cryogenic extension ball valvee is made plays a crucial role in the performance of the valve. This is because valves designed to operate in normal conditions will not be useful in extremely low temperatures – the metal will become brittle. Also, normal valves will compromise the sealing quality in a cryogenic situation.
A cryogenic extension ball valvee is generally set to the fully-closed position in a pipeline – this is done to ensure that cryogenic fluids are restricted from flow or evaporation. In case of an increase in pressure, the valve opens to let the fluid flow. This will lower the pressure and avert any possible problems of vaporization. Once the pressure reaches the desired amount, the valve shuts off quickly with a bubble-tight shutoff. By doing so, leakage is prevented.
The structure of a cryogenic extension ball valvee needs to be thoroughly studied if one wishes to understand its working. One of the defining features of a cryogenic extension ball valvee that differentiates it from normal industrial valves is its extended stem. Many do not know why cryogenic extension ball valvees have long stem, but to know how a cryogenic extension ball valvee functions, it is crucial to understand this.
Cryogenic temperature ranges vary from one application to the other. When selecting a cryogenic extension ball valve, evaluate the impact of temperature deviation on the reliability and deformation of valve com-ponents. The popular materials for cryogenic service valves are stainless steel, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, monel, copper alloy, and zirconium. Cryogenic extension ball valves used in applications with temperatures above -148ºf (-100 ºc) are manufactured from ferritic stainless steel. Austenitic stainless steel cryogenic extension ball valves are suitable for applications operating at -148ºf (-100 ºc) and below. Copper and aluminum alloys are preferable for low-pressure, small diameter cryogenic cryogenic extension ball valves.
Cryogens have multiple physical and chemical characteristics which affect the performance of valves. As such, ball seats should be chemically inert to minimize corrosion, provide adequate sealing, and possess low expansion coefficients. Some cryogenic applications will use metal-to-metal seats, while most applications utilize polytetrafluoroethylene (ptfe). The only disadvantage with ptfe seating is that they shrink under low temperatures, holding the ball tightly. This increases frictional resistance between the ball and the valve seat, raising the operating torque. Such cryogenic extension ball valves are fitted with spring mechanisms that compensate for the shrinkage of ptfe seats.
Trunnion-mounted cryogenic extension ball valves have complex sealing mechanisms. These valves have seals between the body and the valve seat retainer. At ambient temperatures, o-rings provide adequate sealing. However, as the temperatures drop, the rubber o-rings become ineffective. Under such conditions, the cryogenic cryogenic extension ball valves use expandable ptfe u-rings or graphite packings. Graphite packings, like metal seats, are fitted with springs to minimize the effects of cold shrinkage.
Reasons for Using Extended Bonnet for Cryogenic Extension Ball Valve
The valve suitable for medium temperature -40℃~-196℃ is called cryogenic valve, and this kind of valve generally adopts extended bonnet. The extended bonnet valve cover is used to specify cryogenic valves including cryogenic emergency shut-off valves, cryogenic stop valves, cryogenic check valves, LNG-specific cryogenic valves, NG-specific cryogenic valves, etc., mainly used for 300,000 tons of ethylene, liquefied natural gas and other chemical plants. The output liquid cryogenic medium, such as ethylene, liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen, liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum products, etc., is not only flammable and explosive, but also vaporizes when the temperature rises, and the volume expands hundreds of times when it is vaporized.
The extended-bonnet has the function of protecting the stuffing box of the cryogenic valve, because the tightness of the stuffing box is one of the keys to the cryogenic valve. If the stuffing box leaks, it will reduce the cooling effect and cause the liquefied gas to vaporize. In the low temperature state, as the temperature decreases, the elasticity of the packing gradually disappears, and the leak-proof performance decreases. The leakage of the medium causes the packing and the valve stem to freeze, which affects the normal operation of the valve stem. At the same time, the valve stem will move up and down. The packing is scratched, causing serious leakage. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the filling part is above 8°C.
The extended-bonnet valve cover structure is convenient to wind the cold insulation material to prevent the cold energy loss of the cryogenic valve. The extended-bonnet structure of the cryogenic valve facilitates quick replacement of the valve main part by removing the valve cover. Since the process pipes and valves in the cold section of the equipment are often installed in the "cold box", the extended-bonnet valve cover can extend through the wall of the "cold box". When replacing the main part of the valve, only the valve cover needs to be disassembled instead of the valve body. The valve body and the pipeline are welded into one body, which reduces the leakage of the cold box as much as possible and ensures the sealing of the valve.
Key Considerations When Choosing Cryogenic Extension Ball Valve For Your Facility
One of the most crucial considerations when choosing cryogenic extension ball valves is material selection. Given the extreme temperatures involved, valves must be constructed from materials capable of withstanding cryogenic conditions without compromising performance or integrity. Common materials used in cryogenic extension ball valve construction include stainless steel, brass, bronze, and various alloys specifically designed for low-temperature applications. Stainless steel, particularly grades such as 304 and 316, is often preferred for its corrosion resistance and mechanical strength at cryogenic temperatures. Additionally, materials such as aluminum and titanium offer lightweight alternatives for certain applications. It's essential to assess the compatibility of materials with the specific cryogenic fluid being handled to prevent issues such as embrittlement or material degradation over time.
In addition to material selection, the design and construction of cryogenic extension ball valves are critical factors to consider. Cryogenic extension ball valves must be designed with features that mitigate the effects of thermal contraction and expansion, ensuring reliable operation under extreme temperature fluctuations. Look for valves with extended bonnets or stem extensions, which help to isolate the valve components from the cold temperatures of the fluid stream. Furthermore, cryogenic extension ball valves should incorporate robust sealing mechanisms to prevent leakage and maintain system integrity. This may involve the use of resilient seat materials such as ptfe or graphite, which remain flexible at low temperatures to provide effective sealing. Additionally, valve designs that minimize the number of potential leak paths, such as welded or one-piece bodies, can enhance reliability in cryogenic applications.
When evaluating cryogenic extension ball valves for your facility, it's essential to consider their performance specifications for your specific application requirements. This includes factors such as flow capacity, pressure ratings, and temperature limitations. Ensure that the selected valves are capable of handling the anticipated flow rates and pressures associated with your cryogenic processes. Moreover, consider any additional features or certifications that may be necessary for compliance with industry standards or regulatory requirements.
In addition to technical specifications, it's essential to consider practical aspects of valve operation and maintenance. Evaluate factors such as ease of installation, accessibility for maintenance, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. Cryogenic extension ball valves should be designed for seamless integration into your facility's systems, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs. Furthermore, consider the long-term reliability and lifecycle costs associated with different valve options. While upfront costs are important, investing in high-quality valves that offer durability and reliability can yield significant savings over time by reducing the frequency of repairs and replacements.
Finally, don't overlook environmental and safety considerations when selecting cryogenic extension ball valves for your facility. Cryogenic fluids pose unique safety risks, including the potential for cold burns, asphyxiation, and fire hazards. Choose valves that incorporate safety features such as emergency shutdown mechanisms, thermal insulation, and pressure relief devices to mitigate these risks. Additionally, consider the environmental impact of cryogenic processes and select valves that prioritize sustainability and efficiency. Look for opportunities to minimize fugitive emissions, optimize energy consumption, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with cryogenic operations.
