What is Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve
A stainless steel float valve is a mechanical device designed to regulate the flow of liquid in a system. It relies on the buoyancy of a floating object, known as a float, to control the opening and closing the valve.
The ball valve has the same action of rotating 90 degrees, but the difference is that the cock body is a sphere with a circular through hole or channel passing through its axis.
Pressure Rating: Class 150,PN16,PN10
Size range: 1/2"-10"(DN15-DN250)
Body Style: Wafer
Size: 1/2"-8"
Class: 600LB-1500LB
Mode of operation: Lever, Gear box, Electric, Pneumatic, hydraulic device, Pneumatic-hydraulic device;
The fluid resistance is small, and the resistance coefficient is equal to that of the pipe section of the same length.
It has a simple structure, a small size and a light weight.
It is tight and reliable. Currently, the most widely used sealing surface material of a ball valve is plastic, which has good sealing performance and has been widely used in vacuum systems.
It is easy to operate with a fast shutter speed. The rotation from the fully open to the fully closed position is as long as 90 [deg.], to facilitate remote control.
Applications of Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve
Floating ball valves are used in a wide range of industries and applications, including, but not limited to, the following:
Oil and Gas Industry
Floating ball valves are used in pipelines and refineries to regulate the flow of crude oil and petroleum products.
Chemical Industry
In chemical plants, floating ball valves regulate the flow of chemicals, acids, and other hazardous materials.
Water Treatment Plants
Floating ball valves play a crucial role in water treatment plants, where they control the flow of water for purification and distribution.
Components of Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve

Valve Body: The valve body is the main housing of the valve and is usually made from materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, or cast iron. The choice of material depends on factors such as pressure rating, temperature range, and chemical compatibility with the fluid.
Ball: The ball, the heart of the valve, directly controls fluid flow. It's typically made from durable, corrosion-resistant metals like stainless steel, brass, or bronze. Coatings or surface treatments may be added to enhance wear resistance and sealing performance further.
Seats: The valve seats provide the sealing surfaces for the ball when the valve closes. They're typically made from resilient, wear-resistant materials like PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), PEEK (polyetheretherketone), or reinforced elastomers such as These materials ensure a tight seal and resist chemical attack.
Stem: The stem connects the actuator (lever or other control mechanism) to the ball, transferring the rotational motion needed to open or close the valve. It's made from corrosion-resistant alloys to ensure reliable operation in harsh environments.
Seals and Packing: Seals and packing materials are used to prevent leakage around the stem and other moving parts of the valve. These components are often made from elastomers such as Nitrile, as well as PTFE-based materials, depending on the application requirements.
Actuator: The actuator controls the valve's opening and closing. It can be manual (e.g., handle, lever) or automated (e.g., gearbox, pneumatic or electric motor). The actuator type depends on the desired level of control and the specific application.

Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve is categorized by
One-piece Floating Ball Valve:
One-piece floating ball valve and flange gate valve are the same type of valve but the difference exists in the closing part only. A sphere is used in one piece ball valve facilitating its rotation around the centerline of the body. The ball valve is mainly used to shut off, dispense and change the direction of the medium in the pipeline.
Two-piece Floating Ball Valve:
Two-piece floating ball valve has two parts one is on the left and another is on the right, these two parts are connected by threads and bolts. This type of valve can withstand both high temperature and high-pressure conditions.
Three-piece Floating Ball Valve:
In three-piece floating ball valve, the body is composed of three segments from left to right, one is the main body and the other two segments are bonnets; the ends are connected through threads and bolts like two-piece floating ball valve.
How Do Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve Work?
A floating ball valve is a shut-off valve that provides a tight seal in critical operations. It is suitable for low-pressure and certain high-pressure applications, and it can control the flow of liquids and gases. Like all other ball valves, it cannot regulate the flow of a medium and should not be used for throttling purposes. Floating ball valves can either be fully open or fully closed.
The valve can be welded in place or connected to the pipeline using bolts. To open the floating ball valve, the actuator must be turned to a 90-degree angle. As the actuator moves, it rotates the valve stem, which is connected to the ball. This causes the ball to rotate so that the hollow side is parallel to the pipeline. Water can now flow freely through the valve to the other end of the pipeline. The onstream pressure moves the ball slightly, causing it to contact the downstream seat and create a seal. This prevents water from entering the valve body.
To close the valve, move the actuator a quarter turn again so that the ball rotates, and the hollow side becomes perpendicular to the pipeline. The onstream pressure pushes the upstream seat and the ball against the downstream seat, forming a tight seal and effectively stopping the flow of water. Floating ball valves provide bi-directional shut-off, meaning the medium can flow in either direction without affecting the function of the valve.
Why Should You Use a Stainless Steel Floating Ball Valve?
The floating ball valve is an efficient way to control the flow of most liquids and gases. Its flexible design allows for a wide range of applications, but the biggest advantage of this type of valve is its versatility. Its small size and high flexibility make it a good choice for various applications. However, there are some drawbacks to using this type of valve. It's important to understand the specifics of the application to determine whether this is the best option for you.
Floating ball valves can handle high pressures and temperatures. Due to their unique design, they can adapt to varying pressures. However, valves that use these floating balls tend to leak more often than other types, so you need to ensure that the floating balls are large enough to withstand the flow. If the ball is too large, it may settle on the seal ring, compromising the seal's function.
Floating ball valves are often used in pipeline systems due to their ability to withstand high pressures and their adaptability to changing temperatures. These valves can also handle high temperatures, which is crucial for systems dealing with volatile materials. The quick and easy operation of floating ball valves makes them ideal for such applications.
